Congratulations to Andy Slater, our July Athlete Of The Month! Andy has been a member of #Team0530 since early December 2018 and has consistently demonstrated a desire to learn and grow as an athlete. Way to go Andy!
How did you get started with CrossFit?
“I tried a local gym and loved it. I was particularly attracted to learning new movements such as the Olympic lifts. I stopped CrossFit to focus on Oly lifting and did a few competitions which was a great experience.”
Favorite movement or workout?
“Snatch, C&J and box jumps.”
Least favorite movement or workout?
“Handstand push ups. I need a lot more practice with this one.”
Long term and short term goals:
“Just to keep improving. I’m learning that my best days are ahead of me. I feel I’m making progress in the 6 months I’ve been a member.I’d like to do more Oly lifting comps and increase my numbers.”
What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and is scared to try?
“There are enough scaling options for most people and the coaches are very helpful when learning new moves. I’d say you would be more likely to get injured working out on your own rather than at CrossFit.”
What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
“It was one of the Open workouts from this year. It involved a lot of cleans which got heavier. I finished before the cap and also was really chuffed to complete that many reps at a weight which was close to my 1RM.”
Who are 3 people you look up to and why?
“Keith Richards – still being alive after taking so many drugs.
My mum – still talks to me despite what I was like as a teenager.
A coworker friend of mine who is able to find the best in everyone.”
What do you love most about 317?
“The genuine support people have for each other. 317 isn’t competitive like other gyms I’ve been to.”
What is a quote or motto that you live by?
