Today we’re getting to know Terrance Henderson. He got his start at 317 in January 2019. Since joining he’s found that the benefits of CrossFit reach beyond just the gym. Read on to learn more about his experience!
Tell us a little about yourself. Career? Family life? Let’s get to know you!
“I am a native Hoosier, born in northwest Indiana and moved to Indy when I was 8 years old. I was raised on the westside of Indy. I have an older brother and younger sister. I graduated from Ben Davis in 2009. I am a registered nurse and I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs. I am single, no pets and I enjoy being active. I am also in graduate school to become a nurse practitioner.”
What made you consider joining a CrossFit gym?
“I have always been curious about CrossFit. I have a few friends that do CrossFit and they absolutely love it. So I decided to give it a try.”
Why did you choose CrossFit 317?
“I chose CrossFit 317 because it is less than 5 minutes from my home and when I came to try it out it just seemed like the perfect fit.”
Please share some of your first impressions of the facility, the workouts, the coaching, and the class environment.
“Some of my first impressions of the gym include how clean the facility is and the friendly environment. The coaches are very instrumental in helping you reach your goals and the class sizes are fairly small which allows for individualized attention.”
What physical changes have you seen thus far?
“I have noticed I have gotten a lot stronger and even lost some weight in the process. The main physical change I have noticed is how much energy I have after a workout.”
How has your training at CrossFit 317 impacted your life outside of the gym?
“CrossFit 317 has had a huge impact on my life outside the gym. I feel as if I have more energy physically and mentally. In addition, I am more productive at work and I am able to better concentrate on my graduate studies as well.”
What has surprised you the most about being part of the CrossFit 317 community?
“The CrossFit 317 community has surprised me the most by being very encouraging. Since day one of walking in the facility, everyone has cheered me on to work harder, push harder and to do my very best!”
Did you have a moment where you knew CrossFit was for you?
“I was a little skeptical and scared at first after starting CrossFit because it seemed like a challenge and I felt as if I would be judged. However, the more I started coming, the more I felt less intimidated knowing that everyone is working towards the same goal of being healthy and fit.”
What advice would you offer someone that’s considering CrossFit 317?
“My advice to someone considering CrossFit would be to just give it a try. Don’t count it out until you have given it a chance.”
Besides coming to class, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any hobbies?
“I enjoy playing tennis and hanging out with friends.”
One last really important question. If you owned a boat, what would you name it?
“Knight of the Caribbean”
