March Athlete Of The Month

Indianapolis, Speedway, Avon

Congratulations to Chevelle Williams, our March Athlete Of The Month! Chevelle has demonstrated an understanding of the importance of taking the time to develop skills through proper modifications and progressions. In short she’s a wonderful student of CrossFit and it’s paying off! Read on to get to know Chevelle.

How did you get started with CrossFit?
“When I would drive by, I would see people outside flipping tires, pushing sleds, running.  I would ask myself “what are those crazy people doing?” Finally, I went online and researched CrossFit and 317.  What I discovered, peaked my interest so I reached out to Lori.  During the consultation, she provided me with information about the kick-off classes.  After completing the introductory sessions, I did personal training with Coach Andrew for several months and then eventually became a member.  CrossFit and 317 have become a way of life for me.”

Favorite movement or workout?
“Two of my favorite movements are deadlifts and power cleans.  My favorite workouts are the hero WODs.  One because they are an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of the men and women who have died in the line of duty while a member of the military or as a first responder. Two because they are intense and challenge you both physically and mentally.  When you complete the hero WOD, it is extremely rewarding because you have given honor, remembrance and your best for those who have already given all they have to offer.

Least favorite movement or workout?
“Ha! Ha! Is this a trick question?  Everyone at 317 knows I detest BURPEES!  They are just evil!”

Long term and short term goals:
“My long-term goals include continuing to progress, work on movements/techniques and improve endurance, power, flexibility, stamina and strength.
My short-term goal is double unders.”

What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and is scared to try?
“You cannot strike out if you don’t get in the game. There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of or intimidated by.  Everyone starts somewhere. No previous training or experience is required.  Regardless of your current fitness level, the coaches work with you to start you off at the right pace.  They assist you in establishing realistic challenges that align with your needs and goals.”

What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
“Being selected the AOTM.”

Chevelle’s progress is proof that consistency in training is an important key to progress.

Who are 3 people you look up to and why?
“My mother.  I learned from her by not what she said, but what she did. My dedication, sacrifice, faith, commitment, and always wanting to be better, to grow personally and professionally are qualities she demonstrated.  She also impressed upon me that it is not about the things you accumulate, it is the relationships you develop.  Those live on forever.  My mother passed away in 1996 but she lives on through me and what we shared.

My sons, Jarrod and Kendall. They have helped and influenced me to become the person I am and persist to become. They inspire me to make a difference and continuously achieve my best.”

What do you love most about CrossFit 317?
“The coaches, the members, and the camaraderie.  CrossFit 317 is not simply a gym or, the correct CrossFit term, a box.  It is a community where you develop friendships and experience constant support, encouragement, and motivation to do better and be better.”

What is a quote or motto that you live by?
“You get what you give.  Only expect more if you do more.”
