February Athlete Of The Month

Indianapolis, Hendricks County

“My long term goal is to continue getting faster and stronger and crushing PRs.

Congratulations to our February Athlete Of The Month, JR DeRossett! JR started at 317 through our Burn It Off Challenge in the spring of 2018 and wrapped up the year by competing at our annual SnowBrawl competition. This month we’re celebrating his team spirit, willingness to push through tough workouts, and commitment to improving his mobility issues.

How did you get started with CrossFit?
“I was tired of the rinse-wash-repeat routine at my old gym. It became so boring.  I was strong, but I wasn’t seeing any differences in my appearance. I saw Andrew’s video on Facebook and the rest is history.”

Favorite movement or workout?
“Any workout that makes me push through barriers whether they are mental or physical. It’s quite a rush coming out on the other side.”

Least favorite movement or workout?
“Hahahaha!!! Anything that requires a front rack! I’m getting there!!!”

Long term and short term goals:
“My long term goal is to continue getting faster and stronger and crushing PRs. My short term goal is to overcome my mobility issues.”

What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and is scared to try?
“It will be hard, it will be challenging, but nothing great was ever easy. CrossFit IS for everyone. You will grow everyday and it is so worth it. I promise!!!”

What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
”I really can’t just pick one. It’s every time I’m able to do a new movement or get a PR.”

Who are 3 people you look up to and why?
”My Dad. A single dad who sacrificed so much for me.

Carney Brouse. One of my high school coaches who became a great friend and father-figure who gave me many bits of wisdom that I implement in to my life on a daily basis.

Jesse Gillihan. My father-in-law who is the walking definition of serving others and putting others first.”

What do you love most about CrossFit 317?
“Without a doubt….the PEOPLE and the ATMOSPHERE. It really is the best hour of my day!”

What is a quote or motto that you live by?
“I have two…. ‘All Gas No Brakes’ How terrible would it be to be on your deathbed and say ‘I wish I would have…’     ‘Don’t make it about you’ Reach down and help someone else climb up the ladder of life.”
