“I love pushing myself past my mental limits.”
We’re chatting with Kyle Egenolf who joined 317 through our Kick-Off program in November 2018. Continue reading to get to know him better!
Tell us a little about yourself. Career? Family life? Let’s get to know you!
“I am married and a father, we have been married 6 years and have two kids, a 4 year old son and 4 month old daughter. We enjoy outdoor activities as a family including hiking, biking and the occasional trip to the rock climbing gym where I try to wear out my son in the winter. When I am not home spending time with the family, I work in the manufacturing sector for a Swiss held company in the process automation industry. We make temperature sensing instrumentation that goes into processes from oil and gas, life science, to breweries and food and beverage which provides quite the opportunity for applications.”
What made you consider joining a CrossFit gym?
“In the past I have dabbled in bootcamps, traditional gyms, and doing my own work outs whether at home or outside but have had difficulty staying consistent and challenging myself. I find Cross-fit variable enough that it keeps me interested and challenging every time I come for a workout.”
Why did you choose CrossFit 317?
“I primarily tried CrossFit 317 for convenience after driving by regularly but I stayed for the coaching and atmosphere. The attention to form and willingness to embrace members at all levels of fitness makes for an inviting atmosphere that welcomes development.”
Please share some of your first impressions of the facility, the workouts, the coaching, and the class environment.
“First impressions where how well that much equipment could be organized so well in the available space. Having an operations background I know the challenges with laying out a facility and attempting to optimize the interaction with people and equipment. Besides that the quality of coaching and friendliness of the other members kept me coming back.”
What physical changes have you seen thus far?
“Getting up for the 5:30 workouts has had a great effect on my weekly routine and I effectively shifted my schedule up and found a great increase in my daily productivity as well as energy levels throughout the day.”
How has your training at CrossFit 317 impacted your life outside of the gym?
“Besides getting to tell everyone about the WOD I did that morning 🙂 the biggest effect has been on my motivation and energy levels. Accomplishing something challenging in the first part of the day gets me in the right mindset for whatever comes at me in the remainder of the day.”
What has surprised you the most about being part of the CrossFit 317 community?
“The social outreach and community that is being cultivated is unique and special. I have not encountered many other gyms where clothing donations and food trains are apart of the activities. It really illustrates how the culture is oriented around serving others and creating an impact for its members.”
Did you have a moment where you knew CrossFit was for you?
“While I was enjoying the lifting and variable nature, participating in the 12 days of Christmas workout was awesome and I love pushing myself past my mental limits.”
What advice would you offer someone that’s considering CrossFit 317?
“The kick off program is a great confidence builder and easy way to test compatibility. Low visibility and great coaching builds a great foundation to get started in the classes, otherwise just smile and someone will introduce themselves.”
Besides coming to class, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any hobbies?
“My fitness is essentially my hobby and when I have free time I enjoy spending it outside, hiking, biking or trail running. I try to sign up for a couple trail run races a year and have been dabbling in the sprint triathlons at Eagle Creek.”
One last really important question. If you owned a boat, what would you name it?
“Hmm, the name that comes to mind first for me would be the Wander’full.”
