Brownsburg Fitness facility

“Sometimes when things are physically or emotionally difficult I say to myself ‘You do CrossFit – you can do anything.’”

317 member, Kelly Meeks started with us in June 2018. She’s now a regular in both our CrossFit and our Burn classes. Read on to learn more about her experience including her first time participating in the CrossFit Open!

Tell us a little about yourself. Career? Family life? Let’s get to know you!
“I’m a mom to Jason 18 and Kasey 22, wife to Von. I am a pharmacist, BS at Butler and PharmD from University of Florida. Fun fact – I’m an identical twin.”

What made you consider joining a CrossFit gym?
“Actually I didn’t realize that’s what I was doing the first time I tried it. The gym was not a CrossFit affiliate, but had CrossFit programming. Now I wouldn’t consider anything else.”

Why did you choose CrossFit 317?
“Based on reviews and recommendations I dropped in to check it out. Met with Andrew and knew I’d found the right place.”

Please share some of your first impressions of the facility, the workouts, the coaching, and the class environment.
“Coaches are all knowledgeable and friendly, do a good job introducing new people and making them feel welcome.
Other members are very encouraging. I always say CrossFit is a community, and it is evident here.
Facility is nice, and very clean. Plenty of equipment (that is in good shape) even if class sizes are large.
I was also glad to see multiple scaling options for WOD’s.”

What physical changes have you seen thus far?
“Increased muscle tone for sure. Better cardio and lung function – especially after doing the Burn Challenge!”

How has your training at CrossFit 317 impacted your life outside of the gym?
“Improved overall health, makes housework and other chores easier. I did a 5K in November.
It also changes your mindset. Sometimes when things are physically or emotionally difficult I say to myself ‘You do CrossFit – you can do anything.’”

What has surprised you the most about being part of the CrossFit 317 community?
“How many other pharmacists are members! How much energy the 0530 class has!!”

Did you have a moment where you knew CrossFit was for you?
“Doing the Open last year. My gym in Illinois did a Friday Night Lights thing for the Open last year. It was a blast cheering for others and having others cheer for you. I don’t think there is another sport where people are so happy when others are successful. CrossFit coaches and athletes also encourage you to push yourself outside your comfort zone. It’s empowering.”

What advice would you offer someone that’s considering CrossFit 317?
“Jump in! If I can do, you can too!”

Besides coming to class, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any hobbies?
“Traveling and reading, spending time with family.”

One last really important question. If you owned a boat, what would you name it?
“Sorry…I would never own a boat…not my thing.”
