“It’s a community and one you want to be a part of because people make you feel included.”
Today we’re chatting with 317 member, Sarah Rosenberger. Sarah get her start through our Kick-Off program in the early summer of 2018. She’s now a regular member of our CrossFit classes with some mad gymnastics skills. Read on to get to know more about Sarah!
Tell us a little about yourself. Career? Family life? Let’s get to know you!
“I’m, Sarah! Born and raised on the Southside [pumps hands up] of Indianapolis. So, I’m a Hoosier through and through. I’m also a first generation college grad and proud IU alumni for both grad and undergrad (boiler down!).
I’m approaching 10 years of marriage to my husband Ken who I met through work, and have three super high energy boys, Eli (8), Jack (5) and Ollie (3).
As for work, I recently left Eli Lilly for a Senior Brand and Marketing position for a global manufacturer of building materials where I’m one of a very few female leaders. I commute an hour each way.
In my not so spare time, I enjoy a good IPA, my kiddos, camping, and hope to find more time to further the Indy diaper drive volunteer organization I co-founded that has delivered thousands of diapers to families in need.”
What made you consider joining a CrossFit gym?
“I was a gymnast and runner when I was younger, and as I met good friends who CrossFit, they always encouraged me to try it given my competitiveness and scrappy nature :). It was only a matter of time!”
Why did you choose CrossFit 317?
“I was born and raised and have always lived in the 317. It’s close to my heart and a natural fit given I heard nothing but good things about the gym! Plus, it’s close to home for me now where I live in northern Avon.”
Please share some of your first impressions of the facility, the workouts, the coaching, and the class environment.
“I’ll be candid and admit I was super intimidated. However, after just one class and one welcome, I quickly learned that everyone is super helpful and supportive, meaning everyone is trying to make your experience better. I have other CrossFitters helping me perfect my form all the time and I feel like I can ask anyone if I’m doing something correctly without sounding stupid. The camaraderie is second to none, just as I expected. It’s a community and one you want to be a part of because people make you feel included.”
What physical changes have you seen thus far?
“So, I’ve totally gained some weight at first, and after running for a long time, I was surprised by that until I googled it. However, in no time, I’ve found clothes fitting better and have just all around felt stronger. I’ve got a long way to go to get where I aspire to, however, my kids even notice my arms “buffing up” and ask me to flex, #Win!”
How has your training at CrossFit 317 impacted your life outside of the gym?
“I’m very active by nature, and feel like I am in the thick of life with all my chaos (kids, career, friendships…you name it). CrossFit has helped me in a form of release from said chaos and has helped me prioritize myself for a change. I even have more energy now- which is crazy!”
What has surprised you the most about being part of the CrossFit 317 community?
“The people. Not that I expected anything different, but from day one, I felt included and like I could actually do CrossFit – because I had doubts!”
Did you have a moment where you knew CrossFit was for you?
“After my first official partner WOD. I realized that I could easily overcome my fear of not understanding the terminology and WODs (I mean, at first I was like- what is a WOD or EMOM?) My partner’s support and encouragement made me push harder, made me understand and I loved it!”
What advice would you offer someone that’s considering CrossFit 317?
“If you want it, go get it. Or, better yet, if you have envisioned yourself doing CrossFit, make it happen!”
Besides coming to class, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any hobbies?
“My 3 boys dominate my time with sports and general neediness, however, I really love my family and spend a lot of time hosting people at my house. I also love Target – if I’m being real, it is my happy place.”
One last really important question. If you owned a a, what would you name it?
“Easy, The Big Le-Boat-Ski.”
