January Athlete Of The Month

“I am always working on my consistency. In 2019 I want to double the amount of workouts I did in 2018.”

Congratulations to our January Athlete Of The Month, Jen Landis! Jen started at 317 through one of our six week challenges in the summer of 2016 and quickly settled in as a supportive, encouraging part of the group. Since then she’s became a regular part of the early morning workout club with our 5:30am class. Join us in celebrating Jen this month!

How did you get started with CrossFit?
“I saw a Facebook ad for a New You Challenge, met with Lori and the rest is history.”

Favorite movement or workout?
“I weirdly love push presses. Sometimes I wonder who I know that weighs the same as what I’m lifting and think about how crazy that would look.”

Least favorite movement or workout?
“Burpees & bear crawls.”

Long term and short term goals:
“Very long term: Someday I would like to master all basic movements and get an L1 certification.
Short term: I am always working on my consistency. In 2019 I want to double the amount of workouts I did in 2018.”

What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and is scared to try?
“I tell people all the time that CrossFit is for EVERYONE. Showing up in 95% of it; the other 5% is learning and growing. I get inspired to do better all the time when I see people twice my age doing things better than I can being featured on the official CrossFit social media posts.”

What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
“Sticking with it and not quitting. Pushing myself to go harder or lift heavier when I think I can’t. My High 5 game is also stronger thanks to Coach Jake.”

Who are 3 people you look up to and why?
“My parents for being the hardest working people I know and continuing to stick with each other for close to 40 years. They each work a “normal” 40 hour a week job, run a lawn care business & have a small farm. Every time we do farmer carries I think about them and all the 5 gallon buckets they have carried in a lifetime to water and feed the animals!”

What do you love most about CrossFit 317?
“I love all the strong, powerful (both in the gym & life) women that I have met and look to for inspiration at 317. I’ve made some great friends here and the encouragement everyone gives each other is amazing. This community as a whole is what keeps me coming back and the coaches are just the right mix of tough love and compassion. I think my favorite event to date has to be Trivia Night!”

What is a quote or motto that you live by?
“Work hard, play hard and be fearless.”
