Another recent graduate of our Burn It Off Challenge, Derek McMillan, chats with us today about his experience at 317. He’s continuing on with his training after the challenge and we’re happy to to help him reach his fitness goals!
Tell us a little about yourself.
“My wife Lacey and I have two active boys, Wyatt (9) and Conrad (6). We live on a quiet county road in Pittsboro for the last 3 years after living in Brownsburg for 8 years. I currently work as a Territory Manager in surgical sales.”
What made you consider joining our Burn It Off Challenge?
“An Instagram ad (lol)…but I’ve also been looking for motivation to undo the damage I’ve done to myself over the last 3-5 years.”
Why did you choose this program?
“I felt there was an accountability factor that would drive me to stay dedicated.”
Please share some of your first impressions of the facility, the workouts, the coaching, and the class environment.
“The workouts kick my butt, every single time. The coaching has been exceptional, classes are great, everyone is respectful and pushing themselves and others as much as they can.”
What physical changes have you seen thus far?
“Well, my cardio still sucks and I’m sore all the time, but I do fell stronger, more balanced, and down 12lbs so far. I’ll take it. Haha.”
How has your training at CrossFit 317 impacted your life outside of the gym?
“Being mindful of what I’m eating/drinking, and going to bed earlier because I’m waxed after the 5:30am work outs.”
What has surprised you the most about being part of the CrossFit 317 community?
“Budweiser’s in the refrigerator!” (Note from the editor – See our photos from our first annual St. Patricks Day Beer Mile. We work hard, but we have fun too!)
Did you have a moment where you knew CrossFit was for you?
“It’s more about the variety of workouts and breaking the routine.”
What advice would you offer someone that’s considering CrossFit 317?
“Give it a shot, you have nothing to loose.”
Besides coming to class, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any hobbies?
“Currently my free time consists of being at a ball diamond, gym or football field coaching my sons. I’m also a volunteer on the Tri-West Little League Board. If we aren’t consumed with sports, We have Colt’s season tickets, go to concerts, camping, golfing, and just hanging out on my patio is where you will find me.”
One last really important question. If you owned a boat, what would you name it?
