April Athlete Of The Month

Indianapolis, Speedway, Avon

Congratulations to our April Athlete Of The Month, Megan Murphy! In addition to being an all around fantastic member of our CrossFit 317 community, Megan recently got her first pull-ups during the CrossFit Open. We’re excited to celebrate her hard work and accomplishments this month!

How did you get started with CrossFit?
“A friend of mine tried talking me into joining for over a year and I was hesitant about these workouts because they are super intense. I had never lifted weights in my life nor thought this was even for me. So I finally decided to do the kick-off classes and was intrigued. After numerous YouTube videos to learn the lingo and understand what to do I was hooked.”

Favorite movement or workout?

Least favorite movement or workout?
“Wallballs (not a short girls dream) and burpees.”

Indianapolis, Speedway, Pittsboro

Long term and short term goals:
“Long term: I would just like to stay fit and live a healthy lifestyle. Short term: I would like to be able to do pull-ups throughout an entire workout now that I’ve got them.”

What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and is scared to try?
“Just try it! For most people I can agree it is very intimidating at first but give it a month and you will be hooked!”

What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
“Getting my first pull up in the 2018 Open! Honestly, when I started CrossFit I never thought a pull-up would be in my cards as I have had shoulder surgery on both shoulders and never tried to strengthen them after surgery. That will be a day I NEVER forget!”

Who are 3 people you look up to and why?
“My dad. He started CrossFit 2.5 years ago and prior that that was taking muscle relaxers and receiving injections because of his back issues. CrossFit has changed his life and made his back strong enough to no longer need any of that today. He is such a great role model for his family and inspires others everyday.

My Coaches at 317. They have pushed me to do better in the workouts or helped modify movements that I do not feel comfortable with. I am always inspired by all of them as they will workout in the same class as the members and still watch out for you and support you until the end of that workout!

My gram. She always encouraged me to stay active and do the best I can in every aspect of life to stay happy.”

What do you love most about CrossFit 317?
“All the friends aka family that I’ve made over the last 3 years. Of course I love/hate the workouts but I wouldn’t suffer through these workouts without them!!”

What is a quote or motto that you live by?
“Don’t wait until you’ve reached your goal to be proud of yourself. Be proud of every step you take toward reaching that goal.”
