“…it became more than just getting fit for my wedding. It turned into a lifestyle.”

CrossFit 317 member, Cara Robbins, joined us through one of our 6 week challenges in early 2017. She very quickly settled in as a member of our community. After a short time away, we’re happy to have Cara back in classes with us!

Tell us a little about yourself. Career? Family life? Let’s get to know you!
“I’m a firefighter/paramedic and I work full time as a paramedic at LifeLine. I have a wonderful husband and two fur babies named Aerial(Shepard/Lab mix) and Bentley(Husky). I love anything outdoors and anything that’s a challenge.”

What made you consider joining a CrossFit gym?
“I just got married in August 2017 and at the beginning of 2017 there was a New Year New You Challenge that I thought would be perfect for my #shreddingforthewedding goals!  But turns out it became more than just getting fit for my wedding. It turned into a lifestyle.”

Why did you choose CrossFit 317?
“When I came in for my NYC interview I fell in love with the atmosphere and the people.  It wasn’t “just a gym” it was a family.”

Please share some of your first impressions of the facility, the workouts, the coaching, and the class environment.
“The facility is super welcoming and the people are amazing. They are all there for encouragement and pushing you to meet your goals. The workouts are challenging and it always gives me something to improve on!”

What physical changes have you seen thus far?
“From the very beginning I noticed a better sense of balance from the get go! My strength and endurance are ever changing for the better and it’s given me more self confidence in myself!”

How has your training at CrossFit 317 impacted your life outside of the gym?
“With having to move patients in my career and some heavy lifting I do at home from time to time it has helped me improve my strength and improve my movements to where I’m lifting properly.”

What has surprised you the most about being part of the CrossFit 317 community?
“The people here seem to genuinely care about you. You aren’t just a number and you’re not just a membership . . . you’re a person and the 317 community is there to support you with whatever goals you have.”

Did you have a moment where you knew CrossFit was for you?
“My first class I knew it was for me! Even though I had stopped going for a moment after getting married, all I could think about was going back and I’m so happy to be back!”

What advice would you offer someone that’s considering CrossFit 317?
“Just take the jump and do it!  It is 100% worth it!  317 makes working out and getting healthy fun!  It doesn’t matter what fitness level you are at or what you know about working out… this place always has something new and this place will become your second family before you know it!”

Besides coming to class, what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Any hobbies?
“I use to play trumpet in the Hendricks county orchestra and now I just play for enjoyment at home. I love to fish, shoot guns and any chance I get spend time with my family.  Family is always #1 and I wouldn’t be who I am today without them.”

One last really important question. If you owned a boat, what would you name it?
“Ooooooooo probably one of the funniest names I’ve seen is ‘Ship Happens’.”
