Software engineer, helicopter pilot, and judge for Mero Dance Cup USA are just a few of the roles that Dhan Gurung is currently filling. While it would be easy for him to fall in to the trap of being “too busy”, Dhan has made a commitment to his health and fitness and it’s paying off. Big time! Join us this month as we recognize his hard work and celebrate the success that he’s had at CrossFit 317!


How did you get started with CrossFit?
“In short, after my regular physical checked up, they found a problem with my health. I started looking for a fitness center as per my doctors recommendation. I saw ‘Six week challenge’ on Facebook and guidance by ‘Lori’…After successful completion of the six week challenge I felt better and motivated towards fitness.  So, I felt CrossFit 317 is the only program that can change my entire life to be healthy.”

Favorite movement or workout?
“Everything as per the WOD is my favorite and that makes them a favorite cause of the coaches. Coaches are outstanding…love them!

Least favorite movement or workout?
“To be honest running, lol.”

Long term and short term goals:
“Long term goals: To be healthy, to make good shape of my body, to be fit, drop down my weight, bring back my cholesterol in normal and enjoy work out…

Short term goals:
(i)To drop my weight.
(ii) Drop my cholesterol.
(iii) Bring my blood pressure back to normal.”

What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and is scared to try?
“I will suggest to them to just forget everything and jump down from fence, enjoy the workout. There is nothing to scared for/about! Once you are in you will not go away from CrossFit 317 due to best environment in the fitness world and the results you see on your body/health. All the coaches are so professional and experienced.”

What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
“My proudest accomplishment so far are following:

(i) Dropped my cholesterol down to 275mg/dl from 403mg/dl as Normal should be <=200mg/dl/.
(ii) Lost 13 pounds and gained muscles.
(iii) Blood pressure came back to normal.
(iv) I felt good and got my body in shape after joining CrossFit 317.”

Who are 3 people you look up to and why?
“Overall, I am little different as I had to choose three peoples/categories, then obviously-
(i)Education/career: (a)-Tulsi Upadhaya (software engineering)  (b)-Jeff Arnold (Helicopter pilot)
(ii)Dance: Remo Dsouza – best choreographer
(iii)Fitness/Health – Crossfit 317 Coach, Andrew Toole – He cares about us a lot, he has created/set motivation towards CrossFit/healthy life, and he always tries to make us do our best in a safe way. Results are unbelievable and he is a good human being.”

What do you love most about CrossFit 317?
“Mostly the environment – everyone is friendly, respectful, supportive, careful and motivated. And then cleanness as all equipment is kept in apple-pie-order.”

What is a quote or motto that you live by?
“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m Possible’!”
