“Taking care of my body has become a huge priority.”

This week we talk with Jerry Whitaker, CrossFit 317 member since January 2017. Read on to learn how CrossFit 317 changed his mind about the safety of CrossFit, challenged his fitness, and encouraged him to also make improvements in areas outside of the gym.

What were your first impressions upon joining CrossFit 317?
“My first impressions on joining 317 were very positive. I always had this negative, CrossFit gets you hurt attitude, but the 317 community changed that after the first class. The instructors were on my ass about my form, and the other members were just accepting and enjoyable to be around. I instantly felt welcomed.”

How has your training at 317 impacted your life outside of the gym?
“Training at 317 has made me an all around better athlete. The attention to detail inside the box has spread to my life outside. I pay more attention than I ever have to my recovery and nutrition. Taking care of my body has become a huge priority.”

How does CrossFit 317 meet your health and fitness needs?
“CrossFit 317 helps me get my cardio in without hating the autonomy of running or the boring idea of a treadmill. I really enjoy fitness more so than I ever have before.”

Is there a particular class time that you enjoy?
“1630 is when I usually go, but I’d say 0530 has me in the best mood at the end of the workout. It’s an amazing feeling having that workout knocked out first thing in the morning.”

Do you have a 317 memory that you would like to share?
“I’d have to say my favorite 317 memories are whenever I get to add to the PR board. It makes me happy.”

What’s your favorite part of CrossFit?
“My favorite part of CrossFit is the community and the competitive nature. You all may not know it, but I’m racing you. 😉

If asked to sum up 317 in one word or phrase, what would it be?

What advice would you offer to someone that’s new to CrossFit?
“The advice that I would offer is that you get what you put into it. Just show up every week.”

Outside of the gym, what activities and hobbies do you enjoy?
“Outside of the box, my favorite activity would be spending time with my family. They’re my world.”
