Athlete of the Month

Congrats Jeff on being our April Athlete of the Month

My name is Jeff Porter and I’m 32 years old. I have an amazing wife Kathy and the two greatest kids in the world, Sophie and Maxson. I have lived in Indiana my whole life and grew up on the South side of Indianapolis. We have lived in Brownsburg for the past 5 1/2 years. I have always been into sports. I played football, wrestling and track in high school. Then played football at U of Indy for one year and transferred to Franklin and played there for three years.

How did you get involved in CrossFit?

In 2009, a friend of mine at the time told me about Crossfit and showed me the video “Every Second Counts”. I new it was what I was looking for. I was instantly hooked.

What was your first WOD/experience?

Karen. I literally had to crawl to my car and could barely walk for 3 days.

When did you start coming to CrossFit 317?

The minute they started offering the 4:30 class.

Is this the first CrossFit you’ve worked out at / how long have you been CrossFitting for?

Yes, this is the first affiliate. I have tried to do it in other gyms and I have been doing it out of my garage the year or so leading up to me joining.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?

What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals?

Short-muscle ups and hand stand walk. Long-better at everything.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

In the gym-Sticking with it. I have taken a couple of breaks from Crossfit over the past 3-4 years and have had to basically start over. No more breaks!
Outside of the gym-My kids.

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement?

Favorite-Olympic lifting
Least Favorite-Thrusters(especially db thrusters)

What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit?

I am a business/project consultant for a company called PCM. I am currently working on a contract for and at Eli Lilly for a partnership they have in the Diabetes Department.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?

I love, love, love playing with my kids. I also love to cook, work around the house, go on dates with my wife, and hang out with family and friends.

Do you eat Paleo or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?

We are paleoish, we still eat some legumes and red potatoes on occasion. But we have been wheat/gluten, dairy, and soy free for over 3 1/2 years. My favorite meal is probably just a burger on the grill with avocado and bacon. Meatballs are a close second.

Give me 4 fun facts about you!

My wife and I are high school sweethearts and just celebrated 15 years together.
I used to weigh about 230 lbs and could bench press more than I can dead lift now.
I have a fear of flying.
I’m a HUGE Bears fan!
