Athlete of the Month

Our September athlete of the month is Mary Reilly.

She is an awesome mother of 4, an ER Doc, and just a true joy to be around!

She’s always working hard and she even worked around an injury that had her in a walking boot. She may be under the radar to some, but she brings lots of life and joy to our box!

*There is one picture of her husband finishing his first Ironman distance triathlon and their children joined him at the finish line and she gushes that that is her favorite picture!*

How did you get involved in CrossFit?

A friend of mine at work is a member of the IndyNorth box and she loved her experience. I always enjoyed hearing about her work-outs and she inspired me to try it out!

What was your first WOD/experience?

Believe it or not, Zeus!! I hadn’t done an intro class at CrossFit 317 because I thought I’d just throw myself in and see what happened.

When did you start coming to CrossFit 317?

I started in March of this year.

Is this the first CrossFit you’ve worked out at / how long have you been CrossFitting for?

CrossFit 317 is the first and only box I’ve worked out in. Before CrossFit, I lifted with a personal trainer and dabbled in triathlon.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?

At the end of one of my first workouts, Matt T. actually got down and finished the workout (burpees!) with me. That action spoke so highly of the gym and the kind of people who work out there. I think CrossFit fosters this kind of support and sense of community, which made my decision to stay with CrossFit so easy.

What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals?

My short-term goal is to improve my Olympic lifting form and over-all flexibility. Long-term, I want to be able to do all the workouts as prescribed without scaling and long-long-term I’d love to work toward qualifying for the regionals in the Masters division.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

In life, raising my 4 kids! In sport, finishing a 70.3 IronMan.

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement?

Favorite WOD: Cindy
Least Favorite WOD: Fran
Favorite Movement: Deadlift
Least Favorite Movement: OH Squat

What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit?

St Vincent emergency doc

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?

Hobbies, what hobbies!? Reading, relaxing with my family, going to Disney (see below), and spending time at our lakehouse

Do you eat Paleo or Zone?

I don’t follow either strictly, though in general, I limit my carbs.

What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?

Paleo: Steak and grilled veggies; Non-paleo: Sushi

Do you use any supplements?

Nah–just a multivitamin.

Give me 3 fun facts about you!

1. I read 200 books last year.
2. I scream like a little girl when I’m on a zip line!
3. I’m a closet Disney freak.
