Meet the CrossFit 317 December Athlete Of The Month, Jessica Johnson! Jessica has been part of the CrossFit 317 family for almost a year. In that short time she’s made some fantastic progress, learn a lot of new skills, and proven to be a great workout partner. Read on to learn more about Jessica!

How did you get started with CrossFit?
“I got started with the New You Challenge in Jan. of 2017 when I saw the post come across on Facebook. I was at a point in my life where I needed something to get me back on track and in shape.”

Favorite movement or workout?
“My favorite movement would probably be a power snatch. My favorite work out hands down is any partner work out that we have done. I just love having the motivation of working with someone else to see how well we can do together.”

Least favorite movement or workout?
“My least favorite movement would have to be anything with squats. . .although they are getting better I still seem to struggle with them when weights are involved 🙂  So you can probably guess that my least favorite workout would be the one that involved the 100 squats, 5 push ups, 75 squats, 10 push ups and so on.  I can’t remember what it was called. I couldn’t walk for three days…lol.”

Long term and short term goals:
“My long term and short term goals are to take it one day at a time and continue to improve at every class I attend. Each month I seem to accomplish one more thing I could not do before. I have had a lot of challenges in my family life in the last couple of years and I can’t express enough how much the CrossFit family has helped me just because of how great everyone is to me every time I walk in the door. It just helps me forget about my problems for awhile and enjoy the time I have there. I truly hope to be a CrossFit member for a long, long time.”

What would you tell someone that is on the fence about CrossFit and is scared to try?
“I would tell them they would be missing out on a great experience and amazing teammates and coaches. I would also tell them that is people of all ages, sizes, and if I can do it anyone can. Also they would be proud to be called a member of the CrossFit 317 family.”

What is your proudest accomplishment so far?
“I would have to say my greatest accomplishment so far is that I stuck with it and did not give up. I am far from being good at everything but have improved at so many things. I have learned to pay attention to my body and do what I can each and every time. I can only imagine where I will be in another year…and I can’t wait to see. I was pretty excited when I was finally able to do a box jump and some double unders just the other day.”

Who are 3 people you look up to and why?
“Andrew for sure probably because he is the coach I have worked with the most. He is so great at explaining all the movements so that we all understand what to do and how to do it the correct way. He is also very motivating and keeps you going even when you are ready to give up and quit. Andrew is a great person and an awesome coach.  Second I would say is Lori. She is the one that made the first impression on me with the New You Challenge. If it wasn’t for her, I would not even be a part of the CrossFit 317 family so thank you so much for all you have done for me. And lastly I would have to say every member I have gotten to know. Everyone is so encouraging and supportive all the time. I have met some pretty awesome people and am so glad I made the decision to join.”

What do you love most about CrossFit 317?
“Well I think I have said it all in the last few questions but it is definitely the whole CrossFit family in general. No matter how bad of a day I had or whatever else may be going on CrossFit always seems to make it a little bit better.  I absolutely love being a part of this great little community.”

What is a quote or motto that you live by?
“I guess the motto I have always lived by is, ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
